Strofilia Forest
Included in the European Union’s NATURA 2000 network, Strofilia Forest is over 22.000 stremmata in size and is distinguished for the great ecological value and the abundance of its flora and fauna.
Is located in NW Peloponnisos and occupies a coastal zone of about 22 km in length and with an average width of 1500 m. Strofilia forest makes up an entire strip that stretches along the length of the beach. It presents strong great morphological diversities as tree rich areas alternate with clearances, lake waters or channels. There is also a large assortment in its flora, which includes many trees, bushes and wetland vegetation. Similarly, its fauna includes a big variety of reptiles, amphibians, mammals and insects.
Strofilia forest was regarded as the property of the monasteries Mega Spilaeo and Taxiarches since 1766 and 1797. However, the ownership is currently being reviewed by the Direction of Forests (Ministry of Agriculture).
